We had an interesting coffee chat with Kenyan fashion model Marcel Temba to talk about all things fashion, modelling and lifestyle. Marcel is an African model and CEO of Marcel Inc an online company that specialise in Digital Graphic Designing. How did you get started in modelling?
I had always loved fashion and photographs growing up. My idea was always to use my ‘Passion for Fashion’ to change the world and influence others. Last year, I signed up with Kinkey Modelling and Talent Management owned by Olive Gachara and that’s how my modelling career started.
What has been your best moment as a model?
So many moments to pick from but if I were to select a few that still bring joy to my life every time I think about them it would have to be getting to work with Kobi Kenzo Koncepts and Mario Alberto on their Tribal Chic Project, working with Marion Kimani and TV producer Diana Opoti and modelling some amazing jewellery by The Deaf on the catalogue of Sasa Designs.
Tell us something about Kenya you don’t think many people know.
We have our own unique style of fashion: you can call it something new, something old or something borrowed from other cultures. Vintage, Kitenge, Kanga, denim you name it, we rock it.
What kind of fashion do you wear?
I love to match the Ankara fabric with anything I put on, from chiffon to denim.
What are the 5 things you can’t live without?
My Holy Bible – It’s my daily bread, Water – everyone needs this, My blackberry – we are engaged, Music – its food to my soul, My family and friends – they are God-sent.
Do you have a signature scent?
I love spirits of fragrances which I can easily associate with my childhood such as pear, toffee or praline. Serge Lutens, Jeux de Peau, Jimmy Choo Limited Edition Perfume amplified with candied Orange and toffee chypre give me just the scent.
Who’s Your Celebrity Style Icon?
Olive Gachara, Image Consultant at Image With Olive. She is super elegant and classy.
What’s next for Marcel?
Presently, I am working with different designers and event organizers, some billboard ads and a lot of runway. I don’t want to give too much away now so as time flies, you will be the first to know.
